History Letter =]

History Letter

Dear Veronica,                                                                                                                                                       Sept.30th, 1862

Hello, how are you my love, I miss you so much, I wish you would come here to live with me, here in Prince Edward Island. Life here is great, from the crisp breeze on the beaches, to the rich, and red soil I farm on, but life here is not always this wonderful.

Lately, I've been taking a large interest in the way our government works, from “rep by pop”, to the changes and deadlocks it has went through. As you may have already heard in one of my previous letters, we are a very small island, which means with the way the government works, we don't have much say, and we have a heavy load of debt on our shoulders. Here, we don't own, we rent, which makes it hard to pay for our land, if for instance, if we have a bad crop, we may have to give up our land, but the worst part is the owner of our land, will probably never set foot here, which maddens our community.

Also, in the past few weeks there has been a buzz about an upcoming Confederation. If this were to happen, we could possibly lose or buy the land we live on, and we could possibly raise the amounts of seats we have in government. But, one down side is, if you were to move here, from France, your customs and possibly your language could be changed, but mine would not, since I was already English when I immigrated , one thing we could do to prevent you from being hurt by possible Confederation, would be for us to move to Montreal, but we could not make a living there.

So, let me tell you some great things about this possible confederation, well it could make our trades better, we wouldn't have to always trade with Britain, we could branch out the USA, or the West Indies, or we could even make more trade with the other parts of the union, like how I could sell my wonderful, and delicious potatoes all over the land, coast to coast.

But, now I would like to tell you about your possible future home. Like how there is little danger, like how the other colonies are scared of the Fenian Raids, or how we don't share a border with the states, so there is basically no danger, but the bad thing is our defence plan, which Is basically the British Navy, could or would be cut out when confederation happens. Maybe confederation is a good idea, but it could also be a bad one only time and our islands decision will tell.

So, now I must end this letter, but not without telling you, that you will like this island, it is close to my family's home in Nova Scotia, and it wonderful, so please love, read this letter and consider all the things that could come out of my opinion, your decision, and the possible, upcoming, Confederation.

Love,

Jonah Marcus

xoxo.

We Need Breakfast Clubs!

                                                                                                                                          Fallon

Sir: Have you ever heard about young students not having breakfast, or being extremely hungry due to no breakfast. If you have, didn't you feel as though those kids needed a breakfast club. Well, I think Zone needs a breakfast club, because there are lots of hungry kids and economy affected families here!

Firstly, Zone should have a breakfast club because we are a small school in the country, which means a majority of our school comes on the bus. Also, with having a lot of kids on the bus, most kids get picked up quiet early, and this means that the kids can easily over sleep and not have enough time for breakfast, which can cause drowsiness, lack of concentration, and lower grade point average or test results.

Secondly, we should have a breakfast club because of the economies condition. These days the economy is in bad health and jobs are being cut everyday, this means not everyone can afford the expensive and rising prices of food. This food depravation can cause malnutrition, lower test results and grade point average, and decreased alertness.

Thirdly, some parents are not there to cook for their kids, because they may not care due to other priorities or are to busy working extra jobs to make ends meat. These parent can cause many of the things that the other reasons can cause except for recklessness which can cause severe grade point average loss because they are not there to do their job as a parent.

Did you know that the Thames Valley Board of Middle-Sex, Ontario did a experiment that that involved breakfast clubs. After, this experiment was finished the board reviewed the results and found that at least 70 percent of the students that used the breakfast club had improve in most or all of the subjects they were doing badly in.

So, next time you hear about hungry students Bothwell, take a stand and propose a breakfast club at Zone and feed those hungry minds.

How Do Tornadoes Form? (Explanation)

                   How Do Tornadoes Form?

A tornado is a funnel shaped, twister that comes from a super cell. These twisters cause millions of dollars worth of damage each year. But why?

One explanation how tornadoes are formed is that when rising air, called an updraft, is set spinning by winds blowing from the side. Tornadoes come from a giant rotating thunderstorm called a supercell.

The evidence of this is a large cone that comes out of a supercell, debris, population loss, and costly damage.

An alternative explanation is low pressure systems, which cause the dangerous electric storms that can create supercells, the birthplace of a tornado, which if hit with hot air will make the tornado and causes it to twist.

The evidence of this explanation is that most tornadoes are seen in low-pressure systems, and that the supercells they come from are most seen in these systems.

These explanations are based on years of research, weather systems, events that involve tornadoes, weather devices, and observations done by weather meteorologists

Of these two explanations the most likely one is the low-pressure systems because they are involved the most storms that are accompanied by hail, thunder, lightning, and last but not least, tornadoes.

I Can't Beleive I went To This Zoo...:(

The owner of Lickety Split Ranch south of London was found guilty of keeping animals in captivity without a license this morning. Justice of the Peace Robert Seneshen ordered the forfeiture of the wildlife, but no additional fines. Animals were seized from the roadside zoo in August, 2008, and will not be returned to the ranch. The seized wildlife include a white-tailed deer, a raccoon, four lynx, three foxes and a bobcat.

Ranch owner Shirley Campbell had received a license for owning the animals from 1999 to 2006, but didn't apply for a license in 2007 or 2008. A licence is required by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

Prosecutor Brian Wilkie said a ticket was issued to eoncourage Campbell to move forward and get the license.

"Removal of the animals is certainly the last resort and that's where we are today," he said.

Seneshen said he would like to see more protection for these animals than the law provides today.

Campbell wasn't in court today.

About a dozen demonstrators outside the provincial offences court said they were pleased with Seneshen's decision. But they too are looking for a better way to protect animals in roadside zoos.

If You Gotta Dog [or cat] Read On!!!!!

Companion Animals

Be Your Dog or Cat's Best Friend!

So, how well are you treating your best friend? You know, the one who's faithfully waiting for you at the door when you get home, the one who curls up at your feet and thinks that you're the most perfect person on the planet no matter what Mom and Dad might be thinking at the time.Ferret

When you choose to share your home with a dog, cat, or other animal, you're making a life-long commitment. They rely on you to take good care of them and keep them safe from harm. They need fresh food and water, proper veterinary care (and that includes being spayed or neutered), and lots of TLC from you and the fam! Plus, our canine friends need lots of walks, and our cats need clean kitty boxes.

Remember, dogs, cats, and other companion animals want to be inside with you and your family, not stuck outside in a cage or pen or tied to the end of a chain. And they should never be allowed to roam around freely-the outside world is no place for our furry friends because not everyone is kind to them. They'd much rather be inside with you anyway-after all, you are the center of their universe!

Cat and DogHere's something that I'll bet you didn't know about dogs: They can't sweat! Instead, they pant to cool themselves off. And did you know that dogs can get sunburned? Yep, it's true. So when it's hot, be sure that your dog has lots of fresh water to drink and isn't out in the sun for too long because not only can dogs get sunburned, they can also suffer from heat strokes. Remember, they're wearing fur coats in the summertime! And never ever leave your dog in the car when it's even the least bit warm outside (again, think fur coat) because the heat inside a parked car can cause a dog to suffer brain damage and die in less then 10 minutes, even with the windows down! When the temperature is soaring, it's best to leave your canine pal at home.

Always look out for our animal friends, and never turn your back on lost, stray, or injured animals! If you find an animal, quickly ask Mom and Dad for help, and call your local animal control office right away so that they can come and get the animal off the street.

Another Reason To Hate Circuses!!!!!

Animals Used for Entertainment

Circuses and Zoos Are No Fun for Animals!

How would you feel if you were snatched away from your family, beaten, chained or stuck in a dirty cage or boxcar so that you could never roam around freely or play, and forced to perform silly tricks just so that someone could make money? That would be awful, wouldn't it? Well, that's what life is like for elephants, tigers, bears, lions, horses, sea lions-yes, that's right, sea lions, who are supposed to be in the sea-and other animals who are used in circuses and zoos. For them, life is no fun at all.

BullhookAnimals in the circus aren't there because they want to be, and they don't perform because they enjoy it. Trainers use tight collars and muzzles to help control the animals and whips, electric prods, and bullhooks to force them to perform.

Animals in the circus are taken from their families and deprived of all the things that they would experience in their natural habitats. If you were able to watch these animals in the wild, you'd never find them riding bicycles, jumping through flaming hoops, standing on their heads, walking around on their hind legs, or balancing balls on their noses! You'd see them roaming around, foraging or hunting for food, and bonding with their family unit or herd.

Circus animals are dragged around the country in cramped, dirty boxcars for as many as 50 weeks a year-keep in mind that there are only 52 weeks in an entire year! When they're not performing, the big cats, bears, and other animals actually live in these small barren boxcars or cages, and sometimes, they're not able to get to food and water when they are thirsty or hungry.Chained Leg The elephants spend about 20 hours a day in chains and are usually only unchained long enough to perform for a noisy crowd. But in the wild, elephants walk between 30 and 50 miles a day, play in mud pits, swim in watering holes, and interact with their loved ones. Did you know that female elephants stay with their mothers for their entire lives? Males are a bit more independent, so they stick with Mom until they're about 15 years old. But circuses take young elephants away from their families.

Zoos claim to be "educational," but come on! The only thing that you can learn about animals by going to the zoo is what happens to them when they are taken from their families and homes in the wild, held hostage, and deprived of what comes naturally to them ... they go crazy! If you've ever been to a zoo or roadside animal exhibit, you know what we're talking about.

Caged BearAnimals in zoos become bored and stressed from confinement, and they develop a mental illness called "zoochosis". Animals with zoochosis pace back and forth, sway from side to side, throw feces, bite the cage bars, repeatedly lick the bars and walls of the cages, and over-groom themselves, which can cause bald spots.

Some people think that zoos work to save endangered species, but that is not the case. Zoos don't rehabilitate the endangered animals who live there so that they can release them into the wild; they rehabilitate them so that they can keep them and put them on display. And zoos don't breed endangered species to help increase their populations, either.Caged Tiger Zoos know that everyone loves baby animals-I mean, really, who can resist them?!-and they breed animals so that they will have an endless supply of baby animals to put on display to draw crowds because to them, it's all about making money. When they have too many animals or when animals no longer draw a crowd, zoos sometimes sell animals or even kill them. If zoos really cared about animals, they would rescue and care for exotic animals who cannot be released into the wild, but they would never sell or breed them.

You can help animals by avoiding circuses with animal performers and zoos. Check out circuses that have only human performers, like Cirque de Soleil, because all their performers want to be there!

You're Health Matters and if you care Read ON!!!!

Animals Used for Food

Your Health, the Environment, and Animals Used for Food

Chickens, pigs, turkeys, cows, and other animals who are raised for food value their lives just as much as you and I value ours. They are not nuggets, drumsticks, burgers, roasts, steaks, chops, bacon strips, sausage links, or hot dogs, and they certainly don't have any spare ribs. If someone did the same things to dogs and cats that farmers and slaughterhouse workers do to these friendly animals, they could be prosecuted for animal cruelty and locked up.

Animals on factory farms suffer terribly before they show up in neat, tidy packages at the grocery store, your fave restaurant, or a fast-food joint. They live in crowded, filthy conditions and suffer through painful procedures like branding, dehorning, debeaking, and having their tails cut off and their teeth sawed off-all without painkillers. They are crammed onto trucks and carted to the slaughterhouse, where they're hung upside-down and their throats are slit, often while they are still fully conscious.

PigDid you know that each vegetarian saves 100 lives a year? Well ... 101 when you count yourself. Eating animals and animal products contributes to health problems, including cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and obesity-just to name a few. You've probably heard Mom and Dad talking about trying to eat healthier by avoiding fatty foods, right? Well, let them know that meat, dairy products, and eggs have no fiber or complex carbohydrates and are full of fat and cholesterol.

Your parents might think that you can't get the right nutrition from a vegetarian diet, but that's just not true! Fresh fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and whole grains are the way to go! So before you announce that you're going veg, do some research and present the facts. For starters, beans, oatmeal, whole-wheat bread, peas, nuts, broccoli, mushrooms, and peanuts are healthy sources of protein. And you can get the calcium that you need from beans, kale, soy products, and other green leafy vegetables.

The best thing you can do for the environment is to go vegetarian! Think about it: About 80 percent of the farmland and nearly half the water used in the U.S. are used to raise animals for food. And the sewage produced by those animals-thousands of pounds of it-often spills into lakes and streams, contaminating them.

ChickenDid you know that it takes about 300 gallons of water per day to produce food for someone who is totally vegetarian, but it takes more than 4,000 gallons of water per day to create the food needed to feed a meat-eater? Shocking, isn't it?! Here's another interesting statistic: Every vegetarian saves an acre of trees every year! More than 260 million acres of U.S. forest have been cleared to grow crops to feed animals who are raised for meat, and another acre of trees disappears every five seconds. Scary! The tropical rain forests are also being destroyed to create grazing land for cattle. Fifty-five square feet of rain forest may be cut down to produce just one quarter-pound burger.

The best thing that you can do for animals, your health, and the Earth is to go veg!

Listen Up People!!!!!!!! :)

Animals Used for Clothing

Animals Used for Clothing

When you look at a cow, do you see a pair of shoes, a coat, a soccer ball, or a belt? What about when you see a sheep? You don't immediately think of a sweater or a pair of mittens, do you? When you spot a raccoon, does the image of a fur-trimmed jacket or a full-length coat pop into your head?

Of course not! Animals, like cows, sheep, and raccoons, are so cute that when you see them, you can't help but smile from ear to ear ... admit it. But when factory farmers, fur farmers and trappers, and some designers look at animals, all they see is future clothing, accessories, and dollar signs.

Each year, billions of animals-like cows, pigs, sheep, goats, alligators, snakes, raccoons, minks, foxes, chinchillas, rabbits, beavers, hamsters (yes, I said hamsters), and in some Asian countries, even dogs and cats-are killed for their skin or fur. Cramped CowsThose raised on factory farms and fur farms are forced to live in horrible, crowded, dirty conditions and suffer painful deaths just so that they can be made into leather, wool, or fur products. Crazy, I know-especially because there are so many alternatives to choose from. There's no reason that anyone should still be wearing animals!

Animals don't want to be made into the latest fashion trend, and the good news is: They don't have to be! There are lots of alternatives to leather, wool, fur, and all the other fabrics made from animals. There are even alternatives to leather sporting equipment!

Soccer GirlTarget, Wal-Mart, Alloy, Delia's, Hot Topic, Kmart, Urban Outfitters, Payless Shoe Source, and tons of other stores near you are full of synthetic shoes, bags, belts, sweaters, coats ... you name it, they've got it. Plus, synthetics are usually cheaper and last a lot longer than fabrics made from someone, and that will make Mom and Dad really happy!

But don't stop there! Never pass up a chance to educate your fam, friends, teachers, or anyone else about the cruelty involved in turning animals into clothing and accessories or to let 'em know how easy it is to find alternatives. Click here to check out the cool stickers and leaflets that you can use to help spread the message that animals are not fabric.
